Geocache Description:

As Canadians, we take pride in our starry skies, northern lights, and large stretches of wilderness. Saskatchewan's vast open landscape holds above it some of the darkest skies in Canada, and as such some of the best places for astronomical observing. This series of caches is named after the stars and constellations you may see as you look up.

Becrux (HIP 62434)

Becrux is a blue subgiant star in the constellation Crux. At 351 light years away, it is the 19th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.25. Becrux is the primary component of a multiple-star system and an intrinsic variable star that varies between magntitudes 1.14 and 1.17 over a period of 4.56 hours. The iron abundance of Becrux is -0.08 (83.2% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 27.5 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 20,400 and 23,900 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
