Alnitak (HIP 26727)
Alnitak is a blue supergiant star in the constellation Orion. At 1,088 light years away, it is the 32nd brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.74. Alnitak is a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 19.4 km/s relative to the Sun and is part of the Orion Molecular Cloud and Collinder 70 moving groups. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 25,100 and 30,800 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
