Geocache Description:

As Canadians, we take pride in our starry skies, northern lights, and large stretches of wilderness. Saskatchewan's vast open landscape holds above it some of the darkest skies in Canada, and as such some of the best places for astronomical observing. This series of caches is named after the stars and constellations you may see as you look up.

Mirphak (HIP 15863)

Mirphak is a white supergiant star in the constellation Perseus. At 584 light years away, it is the 35th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.79. Mirphak is the primary component of a multiple-star system. The iron abundance of Mirphak is +0.14 (138.0% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 30.1 km/s relative to the Sun and is part of the Alpha Perseus moving group. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 20,700 and 24,600 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
