Geocache Description:

As Canadians, we take pride in our starry skies, northern lights, and large stretches of wilderness. Saskatchewan's vast open landscape holds above it some of the darkest skies in Canada, and as such some of the best places for astronomical observing. This series of caches is named after the stars and constellations you may see as you look up.

Kaus Australis (HIP 90185)

Kaus Australis is a white giant star in the constellation Sagittarius. At 143 light years away, it is the 36th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.79. Kaus Australis is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 31 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 19,000 and 24,000 light years from the center of the Galaxy.

Sky position: RA 18h 24.2m, Dec -34° 22.8'
