Alkaid (HIP 67301)
Alkaid is a blue main-sequence star in the constellation Ursa Major. At 104 light years away, it is the 39th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.85. The iron abundance of Alkaid is -0.14 (72.4% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 22.8 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 22,400 and 24,200 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It will come closest to the Sun 803,000 years from now when it will brighten to magnitude 1.39 from a distance of 84 light years.
