Geocache Description:

As Canadians, we take pride in our starry skies, northern lights, and large stretches of wilderness. Saskatchewan's vast open landscape holds above it some of the darkest skies in Canada, and as such some of the best places for astronomical observing. This series of caches is named after the stars and constellations you may see as you look up.

Peacock (HIP 100751)

Peacock is a blue main-sequence star in the constellation Pavo. At 179 light years away, it is the 46th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 1.94. Peacock is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 22.5 km/s relative to the Sun and is part of the Tucana / Horologium moving group. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 20,600 and 24,200 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
