Cache is back in place but if you have troubles finding it check in at the Pub and ask for some assistance.
On entering Noccundra you will find a great playground for the kids, a fine example of a tin shed Community Hall, clean Pulbic Toilets and showers along with the Noccundra Pub and Accommodation. A small Caravan Park with power. Meals and drinks are available. Camping is also recommended down by the River. Noccundra is a historic township in South West Queensland Australia with facilities being supplied and administered by the Bulloo Shire. It is adjacent to the Wilson River west of Thargomindah. It is contained within the pastoral holding of Nockatunga Stations with is a Beef breeding and fattening enterprise. The town was established in 1882 with the construction of the Noccundra Hotel. The hotel is the only occupied building housing a permanent population of two and seasonal workers when required. The Hotel was built of locally quarried sandstone, and transported to Noccundra by Camel Train. The stone building is heritage listed and head height in the door ways is a feature of this building. Andrew Hume’s ill fated expedition to rescue long term survivors of Leighhardt’s 1848 expedition perished of thirst to the west of Noccundra. Today a memorial to Hume is on the western side of the hotel along with what is left of the ruins of the Old Noccundra Store. Free bush camping is available adjacent to the Noccundra Waterhole on the Wilson River Reserve. Noccundra Hotel has an unsealed airstrip directly behind it, and many visitors fly in, park their planes at the front of the Pub, and enjoy a drink and a meal, then fly out again. The Noccundra Waterhole is a great fishing spot, and an ideal camping area. Congratulations go to Chrisval7 and Dismart for travelling so far for a FTF.
