Geocache Description:

The mythic ancestor of the black dogs of European folklore is Cerberus, the monstrous hellhound that guards the gates of the Underworld in Greek mythology. Cerberus makes sure that no living person can enter the Underworld and likewise, guarantees that no spirit of the dead can escape. Cerberus is overcome several times in Greek myth. In order to enter the Underworld, Orpheus lulls Cerberus to sleep with sweet music, Psyche drugs the three-headed creature with honey cakes, and Hermes gives it a drink of water from Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. As his final (12th)labor, the Greek hero Hercules wrestles Cerberus into submission.
