Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Breaks Interstate Park. This cache is located at the Visitors Center and will give the staff of the park the opportunity to demonstrate geocaching.  This geocache is placed with permission.

The Breaks Interstate Park is one of two Interstate Parks located in United States. Its borders are in both Kentucky and Virginia and is one of the most geocaching friendly parks in both states.  The oldest geocache in the Breaks is Laurel Lake  GCGCV9 placed by foxhunter219 & 721 and adopted by mtmanva2 and was placed on 06.28.2003.   There was a caching couple who were instrumental in establishing and promoting geocaching  in the park, they were Richard and Dot.  The original Breaks Visitors Center cache (GCPPWH) was placed by them and later adopted by perrigan-3.  This cache is in memory of Richard and honor of Dot, for without them, geocaching in the Breaks Park would not be what it is today.

This cache is located behind the Visitor Center and is about 5 feet off the ground. Its contents are in an 8x5 loc-n-loc style container that is in another container. Please place back as you found it, do not place food or scented items in the cache because the local bears enjoy the containers as much as we cachers do.  Remember that you are in the sountern mountains, you will need to watch for snakes, bears, ticks, biting insects, poison plants… you know, nature stuff!
