The Old Creamstand
We've placed this cache at the entrance to the old farm, after okaying it with the current residents of the farmhouse.
The structure at GZ has seen better days. We were told the roof had been badly damaged recently when the (large) pet goat who lives nearby decided to climb on it.
Mrs nzkites has fond memories of the old cream stand; she and her siblings would shelter here from the rain while waiting for the school bus, and she can remember the smell of the fresh bread still warm from the oven (unwrapped, unsliced) that was delivered to the box, and having to resist the temptation to pull a bit off and eat it before carrying it home to Mum. In early summer the hedges nearby were covered with fragrant pink roses that grew wild; the kids often used to pick some on the way home from school.
Mrs nzkites' father has recently celebrated his 90th birthday, and he also has memories of the cream stand. He told us of one occasion when he was a young man and one of his jobs was to deliver the full cans of cream from the cowshed to the cream stand to be picked up. One day he was running late so was pulling the sled with the cream cans as fast as he could up the driveway. When he got to the road he stopped with a flourish, the cream can(s) overturned and filled the waiting driver's boots with cream. He was not impressed!!
The road is usually quiet but please park safely (there is room to pull off to the side) and watch out for muggles. There were road works taking place when we visited in April and May this year.
The cache contains a log book, pencil and a few swaps. There is plenty of room for swaps and TB's. Please replace it securely and hide well.
FIRST TO FIND: funkymunkyzone & slieschke. Congratulations!
