Geocache Description:

We are pleased you stopped to geocache in John Day. This specific location is to provide rest for you and a chance to explore town if you widh.  It is a good location for a cache and I think you will find the hunt to be fairly easy.  You are looking for a painted plastic container with the usual SWAG. Read below about the CODE WORD in the lid of the container.

This cache is one of 20 included in the Canyon City-John Day Geocoin Kickoff Event scheduled for June 21, 2014. Cachers finding 15 of the 20 will receive a trackable geocoin. One per family limit until the 100 coins are gone. Those cachers unable to attend the event can obtain a listing sheet at the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, N 44 24.993,, W118 57.273, and can return the completed sheet at a location to  be determined to receive their geocoin.  We will attempt to also include a cache listing at this site.  I will log a note as to the availability of coins.  We are unable to mail coins.

This location in the past was a rough and often unsitely spot for folks to experience as they came to John Day.  Last year some generous community minded individuals took on the task of making this spot more attractive and purposeful.  The area was graded and graveled and no longer acted like a swimming pool when it rained.  Ducks have been seen in the pool!  To the South the weeds were removed and grass planted.  The "sign" at the tree was erected with plans for it being a mini information center.  One primary goal for the area was to provide a parking option for large trucks and campers to allow folks an opportunity to park and explore town.  The area does get good use and I know the business to the West has enjoyed more activity.  We hope you will also get some rest here and enjoy geocahing in the area.

You are looking for a painted plastic container with the usual SWAG and a log book. If you are doing the coin challenge, please include the CODE WORD found on the inside of the lid on your work sheet.
