Located in Stowe, Vermont, Emily's Bridge (The Gold Brook Bridge) is where reports of cars being shaken and scratched come from. It is a bridge that the locals try to avoid after nightfall. It is the site of an notorious story of heartbreak, anger, and death. For over a century it has been haunted by the woman who died here.
The bridge was built in 1844 as a service to the three villages of Stowe. It was used for the safe passage of horse-drawn carriages. It all changed one night when the bridge was used as a meeting place between to forbidden lovers.
Emily was one of these lovers. Her parents didn't like her lover and said she couldn't see him again, which led to her and her parents having a fallout. After a terrible arguement Emily decided to meet her lover and elope with him.
When she got to the bridge, she waited and waited for her man, but he got a case of cold feet and didn't show up at their meeting spot. She had cut the ties to her family and left them, only to be ditched by the man that she had left them for.
She couldn't face her family and didn't like the idea of not being with the man she loved. She tied a rope to the middle beam of the bridge and hanged herself.
Since then the residents report strange happinings at what is now referred to as Emily's Bridge. A woman's voice has been heard quite often, cars have been shaken and scratched, unusual shadows and strange lights have been seen near there.
