The lake of Allos

The Allos lake is a lake perched at 2,228 m of altitude in the Mercantour National Park, in the Alpes-de- Haute-Provence .
Dominated by the mont Pelat (3,052 meters), it is the largest natural lake in altitude of Europe.
It extends over 60 ha and has a depth up to 50 m.

This relief characteristic is very recent.It date of last glaciation that iced the major part of the Alps (there are so many water frozen
on the continents that the level of the oceans decline of a hundred meters and Manche sea is dehumidified!!! ).As all the glaciers
that which has covered these landforms was so powerful that he has carved and polished the soft rock up to dig this huge circus
while leaving in the protrusion latches.In withdrawing, he offered us one of the most beautiful lakes of altitude of the Southern Alps.

 

Explanation on the lakes of lock: the glaciers wear the roche by abrasion. This polishing is characterized by bumps rounded rocks "moutonnees" or the striations and grooves engraved into the rock, when the ice in advancing encounters a roche more lasts, there is training of a lock and a purpose at the foot of the lock that can give birth to a lake when the glacier withdrew
