Geocache Description:

A nice view over Villagio del Pescatore

A nice walk along the WW I trenches near Villagio del Pescatore, the cache can be accessed only through folowing the marked stone paths.

Palazzo d'Attila is an old Wall dating back to the Roman times, has a nice view of the adriatic sea over the village

The current Fisherman's Village is located on what was actually a bay, underground and reclaimed in the 50s. But until the last century, where today there are houses in the Fisherman's Village and there was a swamp, a few centuries ago, the sea. This bay was called "the basin" or "Val Catin," and was closed by a cliff still visible behind the construction of the first settlement of the Village. On the edge of this cliff are the remains of the walls, made of square stones bound with mortar, not easy to interpret (especially today, because for the most part concealed by thick vegetation ). Some photos dating back to before the First World War, when the vegetation was almost absent, give an idea of the complexity and impressiveness masonry. One can see the remains of a floor earthenware, made from scrap and stone karst bricks, bonded with mortar, with a cavity below now occluded (maybe a tank?). Remains of bricks are also visible in the surrounding area. These ruins are popularly known as "Palace of Attila", because according to legend, the "palace" was first used and then destroyed by Attila in 452, during the military campaign against Aquileia. however, possible that this is the mythical " Castellum Pucinum "mentioned by Pliny, and it is the same" Potium "or" Pucium "in which he was imprisoned in 737 AD the Patriarch of Aquileia Callisto: a dominant position, which allowed an efficient control of both the bay of the access road , well suited to a work of military control.
