This is a second magnetic hill found in Ontario. The first one is located in the Creemore area.
At this location you will discover an interesting natural phenomenon. At the base of the hill, with your vehicle turned off and put into neutral, you will suddenly feel the car being dragged up the hill, backwards, without any motor power. Some believe that it is generated by a magnetic force so strong that it can pull a car up a hill. On this hill, because there is a fair amount of traffic, you may want to face up the hill instead of going backwards.
Of course, there is a logical explanation for this. Also called a "gravity hill", it is a place where the layout of the surrounding land produces the optical illusion that a very slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope. What contributes to the illusion is a completely, or almost, obstructed horizon. Without a horizon, it is hard to judge the slope of a surface.
There are hundreds of recognized gravity hills around the world and quite a number of them in Canada. The most famous is near Moncton, New Brunswick where you have to pay for the experience.
