While looking at the map and thinking about cache placements, Mr nzkites asked, "Why is it called Falls Rd? Are there waterfalls there?". Mrs nzkites didn't know, even though she had grown up only a few miles away. When we asked her parents, they didn't know either. So we went exploring...
We didn't find any waterfalls (there may be some further on) but instead discovered great views of the Whangamarino Wetlands. We recommend you park in the large graveled area beside the river and locate GZ on foot. Activities in the area include fishing, game bird hunting, tracks and walks. See the DOC website for more information.
N.B. DOC recommends that if you're not a hunter, it's best not to visit the wetlands in May or June (this doesn't apply to the cache).
