Le Hartmannswillerkopf ou Vieil Armand se trouve à une altitude de 956 mètres et surplombe la Plaine d’Alsace.Connu pour avoir été le théâtre de combats qui se sont déroulés durant la Grande Guerre. Faisant des milliers de morts, il est devenu un haut lieu de mémoire.Il abrite un monument national relatant une des batailles les plus meurtrières qui eurent lieu en France.
Le Hartmannswillerkopf, ou Vieil Armand se trouve dans le massif des Vosges. Avec une altitude de 956 mètres, il surplombe la Plaine d’Alsace et le Haut Rhin. Surtout connu pour avoir été le théâtre de combats qui se sont déroulés durant la première Guerre Mondiale et faisant des milliers de morts, il est devenu aujourd’hui, un haut lieu de mémoire. Le Vieil Armand abrite un monument national relatant une des batailles les plus meurtrières qui eurent lieu en France. Le nom de Hartmannswillerkopf provient du nom du village de Hartmannswiller et de la butte (la « tête », Kopf) qui le surmonte. Les Poilus, à l'époque, ont rebaptisé le Hartmannswillerkopf en Vieil-Armand, Hartmann étant Armand en français.

DEUTSCH : Der Hartmannswillerkopf oder Vieil Armand befindet sich in den Vogesen. Mit einer Höhe von 956 Metern überragt er die Elsässer Ebene und das Departement Haut-Rhin. Vor allem wegen der Kämpfe im Ersten Weltkrieg mit Tausenden von Toten ist er heute eine bekannte Gedenkstätte. Auf dem Vieil Armand befindet sich ein Denkmal zur Erinnerung an eine der verheerendsten Schlachten in Frankreich. Der Name Hartmannswillerkopf kommt vom Namen des Dorfes Hartmannswiller und dem Hügel ("Kopf") darüber. Die damaligen Frontsoldaten haben den Hartmannswillerkopf in Vieil Armand umbenannt, Hartmann heißt auf Französisch Armand.
