Geocache Description:

Cat-Face Tree: Turpentine

Pine Plantations
The turpentine industry had a broad impact on the North FL landscape when expansive forests of pine trees were grown to harvest the sap.

Sticky Sap
Pine trees were scored like cat's whiskers and the sap from the wound was funneled into orange clay herdy pots. It was brought to refineries to make turpentine.

Turpentine Uses
Paint thinner, furniture varnish. Used to treat cuts and chest congestion.
