Geocache Description:

This geocache is located near the historic octagonal barn. It contains a log book & pencil, BC parks lapel buttons and a short description of the history of Fintry.

Octagonal Barn Description. The Octagonal Barn is one of several historic buildings within Fintry Provincial Park. Architect designed and built in 1924, the barn is part of a large estate once owned by a wealthy Scot, James Cameron Dun-Waters, from 1909 until 1938. Other buildings include the Manor House/Museum and the Packing House on the lake from which apples left by sternwheeler to be shipped all over the world. The Manor House and Museum contain historic artefacts from the Edwardian era. Dun-Waters’ vision turned the Fintry Delta into a “Garden of Eden” with a pelton wheel to power irrigation a sawmill & electric light, orchards & dairy cattle and the first telephone in the Okanagan Visitors will experience life in the Edwardian age by taking tours of the Manor House and the Octagonal Barn.
