Geocache Description:

North Cyprus Villages - Iskele/Trikomo

Another in the series.  Iskele is a municipality with 3977. The village has had various projects going on.  There is now a new park and round about .  There is a church which has been turned into an icon museum ( a Cache) but also in the centre is a small St James Church which is right in the centre and over looked by a sport club so always people around hence not suitable for a cache although worth a visit. Some of the wall paintings dating back to the 12th century still stand today and are rare examples of the art decoration in the island  This tiny little chapel of St. James is one of the most charming miniature churches in Cyprus. The interior has porcelain plates in the vaulting, but the icons and iconostasis are without interest. An exact model of the church has been erected by the Queen of Romania, at her palace on the Black Sea, to serve as her private chapel.

Iskele International Folk Dance Festival has been organised once a year for 42 years. The main theme of the festival is folk dances, and folk dance team of Iskele has been participating international folk dance competitions for 12 years. The cache is a small bison so pen/pencil is required., just park off road at the cache.
