This is the first in a series of caches dedicated to the many unsolved murders in Chicago. With the Spirit Sisters being a Pseudonym for Susan Sherman and myself.
In Chicago some 57 years ago this coming August, 1957 a little known crime was being committed on a helpless little 15 year old girl, by the name of Judith Mae Anderson (JMA), who was just two months away from her 16th birthday. Relive the last minutes of this child's short life as we visit her last three known stops on her way to her death and perhaps help solve her brutal murder. Here begins the story of Judith Mae Anderson: August 18, 1957: At approximately 5 PM, JMA visited her friend's house, Nancy O'Brien, located at 222 N. Kenneth, Ave. Chicago, IL. Nancy was bursting at the seams to tell JMA that she was was the one that a boy, whom both girls had dated, had chosen her to marry. Some time later that evening, after leaving Nancy O'Brien's house, JMA joined up with her best friend Elena Abbatacola. The girls ended up at a place called "The Dairy Bar" located back then at 5756 W. North Ave, Chicago, IL. While there some recall JMA stating that she was going out of town on a trip. She was, also, seen carrying a small fluted China glass vase, according to Joshephine Blandi, a clerk at the "Dairy Bar", which was to be an early birthday present for her mother. At approximately 10:15 PM JMA and her best friend leave the "Dairy Bar" for Elena's house, located at 1019 N. Central, Chicago, IL. At approximately 11 PM JMA calls home asking her mother's permission to stay any additional half hour. Shortly after her parents say no Judith Mae Anderson leaves and heads back to her home located at 1520 N. Lotus Ave. Chicago, IL. Never to be seen again. August 25th, 1957: The 15 year old, Judith Mae Anderson was recovered from blue colored drum floating in Montrose Harbor. There is much speculation and many theories of who could have committed such a horrible crime. But nothing has been proven. Just imagine how her parents felt after realizing they would never see they daughter again. Or maybe things would be different if they had just allowed the girl to stay at her friend's an additional half hour. Victim's last known movements: On the night she disappeared, Judith was wearing tan toreador trousers, a white sleeveless blouse, black sweater and white, flat-heeled summer shoes with no socks, the Tribune said. She was wearing a sterling silver chain and crucifix, and carrying an opaque yellow cigarette case and small blue wallet. Before her remains were found, there was speculation that she might have gone to Oklahoma to visit Kenneth, but she did not take the $25 she had in the bank and left $5 on the dresser in her room. According to Elena, Judith had 15 cents on the night she disappeared. I can't imagine the grief and guilt they went though. What we had posted in the cache description are the few facts known about the case. I know this case has been on the books for almost 57 years, Do we think we can help solve this REAL murder mystery?
