Geocache Description:

This very nice cemetery for Santa Rosa is AKA St. Joseph Cemetery.

The county seat of Guadalupe County, this community was settled in 1865 along the Pecos River.  It originally was called Aqua Negra Chiquita, or Little Black Water.  In 1873, this community took the name Santa Rosa.  See history in the description of the "Spirit of Santa Rosa....South" cach on the west side of the Pecos.

The village of Eden was established on the east side of the Pecos.  Later when the first Santa Rosa post office closed on the west side of the Pecos, Eden changed its name to Santa Rosa.  Celso Baca was the postmaster during this time.

This cache is placed as a tribute to the pioneers and settlers of the Santa Rosa area who are buried here.  Please respect.
