Sherwood is the site of one of the historical homesteads in the ACT. Today, barely any remains can be found, except for the surrounding Elms, Walnuts and Ash trees. Sherwood homestead was built and occupied by Henry Phillips in the 1860s. Henry, his wife, and one of their sons, (who died in 1878) are buried under an oak tree on Rogers Hill southwest of the homestead site. Unfortunately that oak tree is no more, but the memorial plaque is still there.
Nowadays, in Spring, you can find lots of wild daffodils around here! - But please don’t pick them!
Henry Phillips (1823-1913) was the Uriarra postmaster from 1878 to 1903.
Please BYO pen.
