Geocache Description:

A quick stop off on the Old Pacific Highway will lead you near to the old Lansdowne River Bridge approach. The cache is approachable drom both Northbound and Southbound lanes.

Before being replaced in 2006 there was a very narrow steel truss bridge over the Lansdowne River just to the north of the cache location and tgere is currently amonument to it on the Northern side of the River adjacent to rhe Coopernook Hotel.

Well before either of the bridges were constructed there was a wharf that served the community of Coopernook to bring in trade goods. Of course in those good old days transport was not so reliant and passengers and traders alike often had to wait days, or even weeks for a passing ship.

Although I'm not certain, I'm sure that they wouldoften revert to leisurely past times whilst awaiting their good or transport. One of the ways that they may have passed the time was playing the "Old Shell Game". This involved a sly operator who would hide a pea under 1 of 3 shells and ask punters to guess which shell the pea was under. The game was really about slight of hand and punters only won if the sly operator wanted them to.

This cache is a little different in that no one needs to walk away empty handed.... Oh and I have added an extra "shell" along with a handy TOTT.

Have fun 😊
