Dress Factory Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
At one time four homes sat along Swopes Valley Road in this area. At this site stood a small dress factory that was later converted into a small apartment. It sat in front of Mill Creek which flows from Siegrist Dam (formerly called High Bridge Dam). In June of 1972 Hurricane Agnes flooded this structure with four feet of water. A year or so later all the residences were purchased by the state and later razed.
Dress Factory is located within the 3,520-acre Swatara State Park that consists of rolling fields and woodlands situated in the Swatara Valley between Second and Blue mountains. Scenic Swatara Creek meanders the length of the park and is surrounded by forests and wetlands that support a diversity of wildlife. Swatara Creek is a popular destination for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and trout fishing especially in the spring. The park also features 10 miles of mountain biking trails. Additionally, the Swatara Rail Trail can be explored from Lickdale to the I-81 Pine Grove interchange and its trail grade is relatively flat with variable surfaces (stone, gravel, and pavement). Please abide by park rules and regulations. Park hours are dawn till dusk. Hunting is allowed so wear orange. Please be advised that by the order of DCNR, you are required to park in the specified parking area. Failure to comply might result in cache removal.
Cache is a short walk from the parking coordinates. Before you set out to get this cache, you might want to bring your bicycles for a family bike ride along the Bear Hole Trail or the Swatara Rail Trail. Little bushwhacking is required.
