Geocache Description:

You are looking for an ammo box hidden off of an infrequently used equestrian trail in a Wildlife Management Area on Army Corps of Engineer land. However, you must first figure out the coordinates of the cache. This cache is a tribute to the early settlers of Denton County. With that in mind, please bring items to trade with a Texas theme.

Part I: Your journey begins at Old Alton Cemetery in Old Alton, the Denton County seat from 1851-56. The log cabin which served as a court house was a quarter mile south of the cemetery. (It is not necessary to enter the cemetery to find the answers to these questions.)

In what year was the first person buried in this cemetery?
(0. 1852; 2. 1855; 4. 1850)
Number of correct answer = u = ________ (0, 2, or 4)

In what year was the Texas Historic Cemetery Marker at the cemetery dedicated?
(1. 1952; 3. 2002; 5. 1978) v = ________ (1, 3, or 5)

What is the year on the sign above the cemetery entrance?
(3. 1909; 5. 1885; 7 1851) w = ________ (3, 5, or 7)

Part II: Your journey will next take you to Old Alton Bridge. The bridge was built in Cleveland, Ohio, and is the last remaining bridge of its kind in Denton County. Recommended parking for the bridge and the hike to the physical cache is at N 33 07.795, W97 06.232, accessible from immediately north of the new bridge.

In what year was the bridge built?
(4.1910; 6. 1890; 8. 1884) x = _______ (4, 6, or 8)

What year was the bridge entered into the National Register of Historic Places?
(5. 1957; 7. 1974; 9. 1988) y = ________ (5, 7, or 9)

The roadway surface on the bridge is (1. concrete; 3. asphalt; 5. wood)
z = _______ (1, 3, or 5)

Part III: Complete the following using the values for the letters determined above to find the coordinates to the final physical cache:

N 33 0w.zyu W97 0z.xwv

We suggest you start at the equestrian trail entrance near the benches in the park at the old bridge.

Be aware that there may be hunters in this area during hunting season, which on project lands is limited to September 1 through February 28. However, the only legal game are dove, quail, squirrel, rabbits, and waterfowl using bow and arrow or shotgun. Deer and hog hunting are prohibited. The hunting season for each of these is only a small subset of the overall hunting season. For more info see the Hunting at Lewisville Lake information page.

Initial cache items include bluebonnet seeds, miniature Texas flags, Texas chill tie, Nieman Marcus cosmetic bag (or cache goodies carrier??!), TI cd case, original soundtrack of "Texas, A Musical Drama", Old Alton Cache buttons, a first finder's cache button, a bookcrossing.com registered copy of Larry McMurty's Lonesome Dove, and misc other items. Please continue the Texas theme with the items that you trade. If the Texas connection of your trade item is not obvious, please explain the connection in your log. Creativity counts...after all, tall tales are also a part of Texas!!

Thanks to Mr. Matt Kimmell of the Lewisville Office of the Army Corps of Engineers for oral permission to place this cache. Texas Geocaching Association
