The second organised Event to encourage cachers to explore some of the more challenging and less frequently visited local walking tracks.
When: Sunday 27th July 2014
Where: Departing from the Walsh’s Pyramid carpark. Walsh’s Pyramid is located a few kilometres south of Gordonvale. Heading South from Gordonvale along the Bruce Highway you will turn right into Moss Road (turn off co-ordinates provided). Proceed a short distance along Moss Road before turning left into the sign posted carpark.
Time: 5:45am arrival at the Walsh’s Pyramid carpark. The departure time from the carpark will be 6:00am sharp. This will enable a more leisurely walk with plenty of rest stops and photo opportunities before we arrive at the summit for an Event planned for 10:00am. The return walk is along the same path (but downhill all the way) and I would anticipate being back at the carpark by midday.
What to wear/bring:
Sturdy walking boots – are essential. Definitely NO flimsy footwear for this Event.
Cap or Hat - as all Event participants are sun smart.
Drinking water – you will develop a hard earned thirst.
Optional Extras - Writing implement / Hiking Pole / Camera
Parking:
Plenty of free parking is available at the Walsh’s Pyramid carpark area.
What to Expect: The walk is predominantly uphill, rising to the summit which is 922m above sea level. The path to the top is generally well formed, although some shorter sections require a climb up over some rocks. Walterhellmut, a local cacher who knows the path well will be our guide.
