Geocache Description:

CACHING IN ON THE TOUR DE FRANCE

To celebrate Stage 2 of the Yorkshire Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2014 finishing in Sheffield on Sunday 6 July, here is a selection of caches, mostly “cache and dashes” for which you will need two or four wheels, along the route of the race through High Bradfield, Worrall, Oughtibridge and Grenoside.  All are placed with easy parking nearby, but don’t expect to find them on the day of the race as the roads will be closed to traffic all day.

The co-ordinates were updated on 11th March 2015. There is a small pull-in by a field gate towards the end of Foxhill Road.  Take care as this can be a busy crossroads.

THE ROUTE THROUGH SHEFFIELD

The route of Stage 2 continues down Saltbox Lane, turns right at the traffic lights and travels to the bottom of Halifax Road where it sweeps left towards Herries Road and another steep climb, the third since leaving High Bradfield.  At the top of the hill it turns right onto Shirecliffe Lane to Burngreave and Savile Street.  The riders then follow Brightside Lane to the Forgemasters Roundabout, but instead of turning right to the Arena, they turn left onto Upwell Street and right up Holywell Street before the last steep climb up and over Jenkin Road to Newman Road, Meadowhall Road, Meadowhall Way and Vulcan Road, finishing with a sprint down Sheffield Road and Attercliffe Common to the Arena.  Phew!  Well done lads!
