Geocache Description:

This is another view of a branch of the Nerang river as it meanders thru Surfers Paradise. It is situated on Chevron Is., which is connected on the East to central Surfers Paradise & on the west to the suburb of Bundall. The bridges were built in the 60's or earlly 70's and are now totally incapable of coping with the current traffic.

Chevron Island was one of the first " River/ Canal"  developments on the Gold Coast. I think it may have been developed by Sir Bruce Small ( of Malvern Star bikes fame. Not exactly sure on this but he developped lots of the canal estates. He also invented the meter maids in their skimpy bikinis to promote the Gold Coast. From GZ, you can gaze across the rivber at the blue tower known as the " Corporate Centre ". Notice the stainless steel wheels in the front. These were electrically driven and used to rotate inside each other. They only worked for a short time and then ceased ever since. Probably got the electricity bill! This tower was developed in the late 80's or early 90's. The tower behind it has only been completed in the last year or so. As you look down the river you will see more very recent high devlopment on the Northwestern bank of the river. Most of these are still empty at this date as they have only just been completed. Years ago, Main Beach was the little brother of Surfers Paradise. Now look at it.

Maybe' it is now Southport's turn.
