Hightower Bald Cache
The cache can be reached from the Talullah river, from Chester York Road, or from Lake Burton. It is wedged
underneath a log. There are no well established trails, only animal trails.
The cache is a plastic Rubbermaid container and contains a log book with pens, camera, and corkscrew for on site
usage. There is a nearby log which is smoothe, and even soft to sit on. There are waiter’s corkscrews, bottle
openers, and paring knives for exchange. There are also plastic bags for left-overs, garbage, or debris that may be
found at the site.
I’m hoping that visitors will take time to sip a bit, munch, a bit, and enjoy a few of the pleasures of Rabun County. The site will be more enjoyable if you are accompanied by a friend. The camera focuses no closer than 4ft. and has no delayed shutter. Please leave the large corkscrew, the camera, and of course the log book for others. Please leave the site and your trail free of debris, food or garbage. If this pristine site (seldom visited) becomes defiled, I will remove it.
Purposefully, only a limited variety of goodies (several of each) are in this cache. Any changes in variety will be
easily recognized by visitors and me, and I’m eager to see how creative visitors will be.
ENJOY!
NOTE in 2024: This cache was established by my father, Dr. John Ed Fowler, a couple of years before he suddenly passed in 2003. On the day he died, he was planning to go out with my mother to locate another geocache! I greatly appreciate that the community has kept this cache operational - I am located across the country, and so a number of local folks have checked in on the cache so that it does not disappear. I also thank all of the folks who write logs describing their experiences on the perhaps-more-difficult-than-first-expected trip to the cache. I read every one and always think of my father as I do so. He would have loved to know that he made a small contribution that has continued to enrich the lives of others! - thanks all, John Fowler Jr.
