I used to live in a farmhouse where these trees grew quite close to the house. When the windows were open in milder weather, at night the lovely relaxing sound of the breeze through the pine boughs would relax me into a good night's sleep.
Now, one of our favorite places to spend a summer afternoon is by a nearby lake, under a small stand of these trees (but alas, a county park. No new caches allowed). Relaxing in lawn chairs with a picnic dinner, or reading or playing card games, the background peaceful quiet symphony of the wind is ever present, a serene soundtrack sifting through the needles as the branches sway and toss, releasing their pleasant clean pine fragrance.
Ahhhhh!
Did you know there is word to describe that sound?
The American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) described the sound in “A Day of Sunshine”:
I hear the wind among the trees
Playing celestial symphonies;
I see the branches downward bent,
Like keys of some great instrument.
Enjoy a short walk from parking to this hide. Please watch for muggles out enjoying this lovely little park.
