Overview
Eagles rock in Glenade, County Leitrim is Irelands Highest free standing tower, it's summit is 330 metres above sea level and can be viewed from many miles in many directions.
This cache is part of the "Eagles Rock" series along a trail bringing you on an approximately 7km hiking loop up to and through this geological marvel. If you are a somewhat experienced hiker, the loop will take under 2 hours. Parking is recommended in the newly developed car park at the "Parking" Waypoint.
The Trail
The trail begins at the "TrailHead" Waypoint given. From here, cross the stile and hike up the track to Cache 1. Afterwards, continue up the track to Cache 2.
When at Cache 2 GZ and looking towards the mountain, approximately 75m ahead, you will see a fence-line above you going all the way across to the bottom of Eagles Rock. It is recommended to follow along this fence-line to reach the opening of Eagles Rock.
Climb up into the gorge and on to Cache 3. After finding this one, climb up to the very top of the gorge and through the other side. (I use the right side but either is passable). From here, approximately 350m ahead, you will see a track below you. Climb down to this and follow it to Cache 4.
Once you have found Cache 4, follow the track on down to the "TrailEnd" Waypoint. Turn left on the paved road and walk along same, taking the first left you come across to get back to the car parking area. If in any doubt, navigate back to the "TrailHead" Waypoint.
The Cache
This cache is a micro container and should not be difficult to find. If you wish to get this cache as a seperate one, it can be approached from the direction of the "TrailEnd" Waypoint.
