Perhaps the nicest high vantage of Lake Massabesic, this ledge affords great views west and north. Perfect spot for a picnic, or to catch cooler breezes when the air is still at lower elevations. The ledges themselves also are interesting, with an unusually high percentage of quartz and mica in the granite: Beautiful natural stonework right at your feet.
BY CAR/FOOT: Access is pretty easy via old fire trails, although there's a modest gradient to climb to the ledge top. Park your car across from "Griffin Quarry" on route 121 for easiest access. Let your GPS guide you via the the fire trails and foot paths: You can get right to the waypoint via trails if you're careful--- but otherwise will have some bushwhacking to do. 8-)
BY BOAT: Moor or beach your boat at the base of the ledges as close to the waypoint as you can; scramble up through the trees beside the ledges. It's steep, but short!
Cache is a white translucent Rubbermaid container; feel free to take and leave a trinket, and sign the log book. There's also a camera; please take a shot of yourself and let us know if you take the last shot on the roll.
Enjoy the view!
