These islands used to be ponds a while back and were stocked by the locals with such fish as Hammer Head Trout, Fur Perch and a few Pine Eels, all for sport and to help stock their larders. A local university used to practice their high diving in the ponds until a tragic incedent with a UPS truck and the UCLA polo team five years ago, but you can read all that on the plaque next to the giant statue of Mark Spitz south of here behind the dry cleaners .
PS watch out for the Rat Crabs in the plants...left over from the ponds.
