I first heard about the PCT years ago up in Lake Tahoe, while working a summer job guiding trails throughout the Sierras on horseback; we crossed it one day on a ride, and my boss told me a bit about it. 'Mexico to Canada?' I remember thinking? Yikes! That's quite a hike! Then, not being much of a hiker at the time, I promptly forgot about the trail for about twenty years.
Nearly a year ago, just as geocaching was starting to spark my interest in hiking, I picked up a copy of the memoir 'Wild', and read about one woman's journey on the PCT. Ever since finishing the book, I've been wanting to at least take a short walk on this famous trail. I'll never be a through-hiker on this one, but I enjoyed these first five miles with friends today quite a bit. In fact, I'm already wondering when I can get back up here and knock off the next five miles...
