"Crimson and Clover" is a 1968 song by American rock band Tommy James and the Shondells. Some sources state that the name is simply a reflection of James' favorite colour and favorite flower combined into a song. Other online sites suggest less innocent meanings of the song which range from sex to drugs to everything in between. Some people over-analyze perhaps? No matter, I have always liked the song, but NOT for its lyrics, they are actually very simplistic. The music and the vocals, not the words, are what make this song memorable...
"Oh
Now I don't hardly know her
But I think I could love her
Crimson and clover
Ah
I wish she'd come walking over
Now I've been waiting to show her
Crimson and clover
Over and over....." (Source AZLyrics.com)
Yes, simplistic lyrics indeed...perhaps that is why people seek deeper meaning in them?
