Number 8 in our series of 10. This is your reward for doing some of the trickier ones - a very easy park 'n grab! You're welcome!
Our Dad worked here in the late seventies and it was a very busy spot! We like to say he was in charge of ALL the wiring that makes the Wreck Cove Generating Station! When they were bringing in the turbines for the station, which is inside a hollowed-out mountain, none of the Cape Breton bridges would support the weight and the trucks bringing them couldn't make the hairpin turns at the time. Dad said HE decided it would be easier and cheaper to do some serious maintenance on the roads in the highlands than to fix/build bridges, so that's how they got the turbines down to Wreck Cove. The time the family spent here then is why so many of us have such strong feelings about Cape Breton now - some of us stayed and some of us came back to stay and some of us still come back! By the way, there are still tours of the station if you want to check it out...very James Bond!
