This search will bring you close to the historic Alexander Barn in Panola Mountain State Park.
The cache is located in a wooded area near the barn, just off Rockdale River Trail near marker PM291.
The historic Alexander Barn is a reminder that, until relatively recently, this land along the PATH
was an active farming landscape. Landscape architect Ed Alexander once owned much of the area between
the South River and Alexander Lake before selling portions to expand Panola Mountain State Park.
This area can be a high-muggle zone at times, so stealth is required. Enjoy the scenery as you hike or bike
these trails. From here, you can access multiple routes for an extended adventure. Be sure to bring plenty
of water.
The Alexander Barn at Panola Mountain State Park is a preserved early 20th-century structure originally
built by the Alexander family, prominent landowners in the area. The barn reflects the agricultural
history of the region and adds depth to the park’s cultural landscape.
Located near Alexander Lake, the barn was restored to reflect its original appearance. Built using local
materials, it represents the vernacular architecture typical of rural Georgia during that era.
Panola Mountain State Park is known for its natural beauty, including its namesake granite outcrop and
diverse ecosystems. In addition to the Alexander Barn, the park offers hiking, picnicking, and wildlife
watching opportunities throughout the year.
