This historic Alexander Barn is a physical reminder that, until recently, this land along the PATH was a farming landscape. Landscape architect Ed Alexander owned much of the area between the South River and Alexander Lake until he sold portions to expand Panola Mountain State Park. This area can be a high muggle area at times. Stealth is required. Enjoy the scenery as you hike or bike these trails. From here you can access multiple trails for an extended adventure. Remember to bring plenty of water along with you!
The Alexander Barn at Panola Mountain State Park is a historic structure located within the park in Stockbridge, Georgia. The barn was originally built in the early 20th century by the Alexander family, who were prominent landowners in the area. The barn is a great example of the agricultural history of the region, and its preservation adds to the overall historical experience at Panola Mountain State Park.
The barn itself is situated close to Alexander Lake and is part of the park’s effort to showcase its cultural heritage. It was restored to reflect its original appearance, providing visitors with a glimpse into the farming practices of the past. The structure is made from local materials and reflects the vernacular architecture typical of rural Georgia during that era.
Panola Mountain State Park is known for its natural beauty, including its namesake, Panola Mountain, a pristine granite outcrop, and its diverse ecosystems. In addition to the Alexander Barn, the park offers hiking, picnicking, and wildlife watching opportunities.
