Geocache Description:

August 1914 -  A time of World Turmoil Germany declares war on Russia. France and Belgium begin full mobilization.

Britain then sends an ultimatum, rejected by the Germans, to withdraw from Belgium.

Great Britain declares war on Germany. The declaration is binding on all Dominions within the British Empire including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa.

The Siege of Liege occurs as Germans attack the Belgian fortress city but meet resistance from Belgian troops inside the Liege Forts. The twelve forts surrounding the city are then bombarded into submission by German and Austrian howitzers using high explosive shells. Remaining Belgian troops then retreat northward toward Antwerp as the German westward advance continues.

The first British troops land in France. The 120,000 highly trained members of the regular British Army form the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) commanded by Field Marshal John French.

August 2014 - Peace between European neighbours!

In May 2014 the rallying call was sounded to assist our Geocaching Allies in their time of need. Our friends in Munich sent out the call to raise an army of 5000 Geocachers from around the globe to attend

THE WORLDS FIRST EVER GEOCACHING GIGA EVENT!

Scotland has answered the call and the intrepid SGEF (Scottish Geocachers Expeditionary Force) leave for those foreign fields and hills and forests this evening with GPS'rs loaded they aim to do their best for the cause! Failure is not an option and will do Scotland proud!

Come along to Bothwell Services car park and wave us off singing songs of yesteryear and waving flags to send us on our way and pass on your good wishes and any TB's etc that may wish to go over to the European mainland

Time 19.30 - 20.30

Meet in the car park and lookout for the "Cache Mobile" (Minibus)
