Geocache Description:

The cache is placed near Scuola nuova di Santa Maria della Misericordia, a particular church in Venice where inside there was a basketball court. The cache is placed out of the working area

The design of this impressive building, still unfinished, is generally attributed to Jacopo Sansovino (which could instead have been asked to continue work already set by others). The architect worked there since 1534, and work continued until 1583, when it intervened to inaugurate the Doge Nicolo da Ponte.

The room on the ground floor is divided into three naves by twin columns, while upstairs there is a vast hall for the meetings of the members and painted by the school of Paolo Veronese. We were kept remarkable paintings went missing after the suppression of 1806, when the building was intended for military use.

In the twentieth century it became the seat of sports facilities and the lounge on the top floor was home for a long time Reyer Venezia, the basketball team of the city. Are currently underway to turn it into an auditorium.
