Geocache Description:

A tranquil spot in Sheridan township.  You'll almost certainly pass the graves of many ancestors, of mine, to reach the cache.

Please respect your surroundings and tread lightly.  This cache is not "inside" the cemetery, but it is almost certainly easier to get to it from within. Please do not attempt to drive in the cemetery unless the lanes are clear and dry.

Several of my ancestors (family names "McFate", "Tahash", "Noe" and others) rest near the cache.  My father used to tell stories from his childhood about this area.  His parents, my paternal grandparents, Clarence and Miriam McFate, are buried here.  Clarence is the smallest child, front and center, in the attached photo which was reportedly taken in Sheridan in 1891.

Part of dad's childhood was spent on a farmstead about 1 mile northeast of this location, where a small green house now sits on the east side of US Hwy 63.  Dad once told me that several McFates were given land around the "Sheridan corner" (1 mile east) for their service to the Union.
