Geocache Description:

I've brought you as close as possible to the Fordham Street pier, from which operates the ferry to Hart Island, location of New York City's public cemetery, also called Potter's Field. It is the final resting place for almost a million of the City's indigent or unclaimed deceased.

Hart Island is a small but substantial island about .4 miles east of City Island. It has a rather interesting history and is now the site of the largest municipal cemetery in the world. The link to the related web page above will bring you to the Wikipedia article on Hart Island and it's various roles in US and NYC history. An excellent view of the island may be had from the GZ of the nearby cache Pelham Cemetery (GC4WEET).

This also happens to be the easternmost point in the Bronx which can be visited by an undeceased cacher.*
