Way back in 1998, the City of Madison adopted the Yahara River Parkway and Environs Master Plan. It was a master plan to maintain and improve the greenspace on either side of the Yahara River from Lake Monona (Where Yahara Place Park is) and Lake Mendota (Tenny Park and the boat locks). For those of you who have not had the pleasure to walk this stretch, it really is one of the best walks in all of Madison. Beautiful bridges, picnic spots and parks dot the landscape and passing by boats and canoes are always welcome with a wave and a hello. The next phase of the plan is to convert some of the areas along the river into a European-style outdoor Promenade with cafes, coffee shops and boat rentals.
I don't know if that will ever come to completion, but for now please come enjoy this stretch of land.
There are really 3 ways to approach this cache:
By Foot or bike: It's a beautiful walk. And for those of you who have not grabbed them, there are several other caches located along the river which will make for a fun afternoon of caching.
By Canoe or Kayak: This stretch of river is very calm and great for beginning paddlers and youngsters
By car: Yeah, there is parking nearby.....but why? C'mon, get out and get some exercise!
Please be careful hunting for this cache!!! As always around water, watch the youngsters and your step. Bugspray in the summer months isn't gonna hurt anything either.
Finally, cache does not contain a pen/pencil, please bring your own. I started it off with Lego dude and something I haven't seen around these parts for a while...............A PRIZE FOR FTF! A $5 gift card for a local sandwich shop which may or may not buy you a sub about 12" long.
