In 1936 the 1st Colac Scout Group was established and the Scout Log Cabin was built. The heritage listed hall is constructed on a log cabin appearance, with massive logs and a huge fireplace for campfire activities during the winter.
The 2nd Sea Scout group was started in 1957, and their hall was erected on the lake foreshore.
The 3rd Scout group was started in 1960 and was ran by the Wesley Church in a hall owned by the church. And three years later the 4th Scout group was started up by the local RSL sub committee members.
As time went on, the 1st Scout group numbers dwindled and they eventually closed. The same happened for the 3rd and 4th groups as well, but instead of closing the groups down, it was decided to amalgamate, giving us now the 3rd/4th Scout group which was started in 1988.
The log cabin today is used as the Otway Plains District Hall, which the 2nd and 3rd/4th are both part of, and use quite regularly.
At GZ you will find yourself at the 3rd/4th hall, so please be aware there could be a scouting event on when you visit.
