On this site stood a cute one-room schoolhouse that was located very close to the Lebanon/Schuylkill county line. Our ancestors owned a farm about .2 miles from here, and they attended the school. In the 1970's it was destroyed by fire. Cache is 2.2 miles RT from the Swopes Valley Road parking lot. Before you set out for this cache, you might want to bring your bicycle and ride along Bear Hole Trail. No bushwhacking is required.
One-Room Schoolhouse is located within the 3,520-acre Swatara State Park that consists of rolling fields and woodlands situated in the Swatara Valley between Second and Blue Mountains. Scenic Swatara Creek meanders the length of the park and is surrounded by forests and wetlands that support a diversity of wildlife. Swatara Creek is a popular destination for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and trout fishing especially in the spring. The park also features 10 miles of mountain biking trails. Additionally, the Swatara Rail Trail can be explored from Lickdale to the I-81 Pine Grove interchange and its trail grade is relatively flat with variable surfaces (stone, gravel, and pavement). Please abide by park rules and regulations. Park hours are dawn till dusk. Hunting is allowed so wear orange. Please be advised that by the order of DCNR, you are required to park in the specified parking areas. Failure to comply might result in the cache removal.
