Poet's Corner Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

zumby65: As much as it pains be to do so it seems, as this place has been cleared of growth, that at some point this cache and its contents have been discarded. It is not longer there in the tree that housed it for so long. The book of poetry has vanished, and all the poems...disappeared. Thanks to all who made this cache so enjoyable to watch and track, it has been one of my favorites. Perhaps one day a new location will be found and a new Poet's Corner will appear, but for now we must say goodbye.

It has been fun, friend
sharing in the joy you held
in writings within
-goodbye

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES! But is is a very short walk to the final, beware the disk golfers. This cach allowed me to combine two things I love dearly, geocaching and poetry. At the final location is a logbook, it is a trackable but please do not take it, it is there for discovery purposes and it makes a nifty bookmark for the log book.

Congrats to: Lazerus3511 - FTF and NayborLady - STF (Enjoy the books)

I came up for the idea for this cache for a project for a class where I needed to propose a book idea, I thought "Geo Poems" and thought is would be a fun way to allow the geocaching community to share creativity, stories, and tales about geocaching in the form of poetry. So the logbook is a journal, please sign it and then grace us with a poem about geocaching, nature, or some kind of tale about the hunt. Have fun with it, be creative, short or long poems, it doesn't matter.

Plans for this cache are to compile a number of poems and to put them together into a book and submit it for publication. If this happens I will then contact Groundspeak about the publication and for distribution (if it happens). I intend to set up a donation for all proceeds (in the event of publication) to go to some form of environmental or wildlife conservation fun. So please, have fun, contribute, and enjoy a wonderful time.

How to find the final coordinates: Using the posted coordinates

North - How many lines does a Sestina have? - WARNING: This answer may require math. (A Sestina is is a poetic form that utilizes repetition in a set pattern. It is comprised of 7 stanza total, each with a set number of lines. You will need to add up the lines from all the stanzas. Google search this question will bring up and answer.) Once you have this number add it to the North Coordinates

West - How many lines are in a Shakespearean Sonnet? How many syllables are there per line in a Shakespearean Sonnet? (A sonnet was a popular form of poetry, Shakespeare took this form and adapted it from an Italian rhyme into an English rhyme scheme. Shakespeare wrote over 100 sonnets in his time.) Add these two numbers together, number of lines and number of syllables. Take that number and subtract it from the West Coordinates

Additional Challenge to Attempt: Once you solve the coordinates and find the final container you will find a logbook/journal. As an additional challenge (optional) I challenge you while sitting down to sign the log, to write a little Geo Poem about your adventures.

1. Pre-write and bring a poem to leave in the cache, post a poem digitally with your log, or come up with one in the logbook. (I have provided simple form rules in the logbook to help you out with this.)

2. If you write a poem, your poem should be about nature, geocaching, or in some way related to you journey, but be creative and have fun, that's the point.

3. Please write legibly!

4. Do NOT take the logbook, even though I made it a trackable it is meant for discovery, it needs to stay with the cache.

5. Remember to leave your geocaching name/tag with your poem so I can attribute it to the rightful writer.

6. Have fun.

Thanks all, have fun and enjoy the caching.
