Some years ago, Mohawk Oil Co. Ltd. must have given up on oil and tried gold mining. They hauled ore out of several locations in this area. Perhaps one of their most promising areas is still protected by a locked gate, even though the road is now overgrown with alders and such.
The view from the cache area is very nice, looking towards the Chatanika River valley.
