HOTSHOT HILL Traditional Cache

I am one of the volunteer admins for Geocaching.com. I was just reviewing your "HOTSHOT HILL" cache (GC5720).

It looks as if this cache has been under the weather for some time - the last find is dated March 28. As stated in the cache listing guidelines available at [url=http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx]this link[/url]:

[I]You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing.[/I]

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been disabled for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

This is a well marked trail with a paved parking lot. There is no need for a Northwest trail pass at this trailhead site. The hike is a short distance up the trail.

The name of the cache comes from the Zigzag Hotshots who work out of the nearby ranger station. The Zigzag Hotshots are a 20 person elite forest firefighting crew. They use this hike in the early season for conditioning. Their hike is much more involved than what you, as the geocacher will need to endure. The Hotshots "power hike" up the hill as fast as they can to a distance of 2.2 miles. Their goal is to reach a great view point within 45 minutes. If you encounter the Hotshots who wear red t-shirts and green pants, say hi and let them pass. The cache is close to the trailhead so a family can have fun finding it. If you feel ambitious, continue up the trail (at your own pace) to the view point. Pack a lunch and plenty of drinking water and make it a day. The cache is a Ammo Can with assorted items contained within. Please sign the logbook. Please tread lightly when retreiving and replacing the cache. We have noticed at other geocache sites a well defined path starts to develop and we would like to avoid this if possible. The trailhead coordinates are N 45 20.534 and 121 56.350 W.
