Seattle Reign FC is one of nine teams competing in the National Women's Soccer League, founded in late 2012 to bring top-flight women's professional soccer back to the United States. Led by Head Coach/GM Laura Harvey and owner Bill Predmore, the inaugural Reign roster featured US National Team stars Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe and Amy Rodriguez, along with national team players from Canada, Mexico and Wales and other promising talent. However, the team was beset by injuries, unavailable players, and the growing pains of being a new franchise, and they finished the season with a disappointing 5-13-3 record, good for 7th place, while rival Portland captured the first NWSL championship.

Their 2014 season ended on a bittersweet note as they lost the playoff championship to FC Kansas City.
