August 25, 2017, our Aquarium at Rockport Harbor, was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. In preperation of the hurricane, our beloved Morey Eel, Marley, was taken to Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi where he still lives. Battery operated bubblers were placed in all the other tanks. The Lion Fish were destroyed as they are predator fish devastating our reefs and we did not want them being washed into our bays. When we returned, 3 days later, to see the damage, our aquarium had collapsed upon itself. Our brave staff found an opening and was able to survey the damage. To their amazement, all the tanks had survived. All the bubblers were still working, and all the fish were alive. They spent the rest of the day, crawling around a collapsed aquarium, gathering the fish and returning them to the bay. All our fish, with the exception of Marley, were native to our waters so they were returning 'home." We are in the process of gathering FEMA money and private donations to rebuild the aquarium on the original slab, which is all you see left near this geocache.
